Summary

Applied Aerospace Manufacturing is a one-year graduate program for students with previous knowledge who want to gain the skills required for a career in aircraft maintenance and repair. Students will learn the use of aircraft maintenance tools, assembly and structural analysis techniques.

Fanshawe’s Applied Aerospace Manufacturing is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program that will provide students with the specialized knowledge and skills required for a career in aircraft maintenance and repair.


The curriculum is designed around the standardized quality management system for the aerospace industry (AS9100) to prepare graduates for a work environment that adheres to that system's requirements.



Practical elements of aerospace manufacturing skills, work-environment readiness, safety management systems, materials handling and tooling will be the focus of this Graduate Certificate. The program will be delivered in a face-to-face (web-facilitated) format.



This One-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program enables the understanding of different Aerospace systems and operations of the aircraft along with the applicable airworthiness Standards and Regulations (Transport Canada, FAA, EASA). The curriculum is centered around the AS9100 Quality Management System Standard in Aerospace. Students practice Lean Manufacturing techniques on 'Mock aerospace manufacturing facility'; Analyze Quality control problems by making use of Six Sigma and DMAIC methodology through dynamic Concurrent Engineering processes; Operational and stability control pertaining to Aircraft Mechanics. In their final term, students work on real-life Aerospace Case Study to produce an optimum solution to streamline production.



The students experience hands-on use of aircraft maintenance tools, assembly & structural analysis techniques, and troubleshooting & installation of avionic systems. They are also given extensive training on CATIA - an aerospace design software (used by Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier etc.), to design new aerospace parts and perform reverse engineering on existing certified parts. This program is designed for students having an Engineering background.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of Fanshawe’s Applied Aerospace Manufacturing (AMF) program will be prepared to apply their skills in aircraft design, maintenance, repair and quality improvement to career opportunities, including (but not limited to): Aircraft Design Engineer, Quality and Certifications, Methods Engineer, Structural Assembler, Quality Inspector, Quality Assurance, Operations Management, Industrial Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Project Analyst and Project Coordinators, Manual Assembler, Materials Engineer, Systems’ Support Expert, CATIA specialist, Lean Six Sigma Expert and AS9100 Consultant.

CNC Machinist
Work with a variety of computer numeric controlled (CNC) heavy machinery to set up, operate and maintain equipment that produce parts and tools from metal, plastic and other material.

Robotics and Automation Technician
Monitor and identify system faults and issues, and take corrective action to maximum production of the robotic system used on site.

Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer

Deliver timely and innovative aircraft solutions to ensure corporate, commercial and military customers’ aircraft are safe and flight ready.
