Summary

Build a broad base of artistic techniques in a studio setting
Our faculty of professional artists will help you hone your artistic voice and build a mature body of work. Get rigorous in-studio training in 2D and 3D design, observational and life drawing*, colour theory and painting and more. (*Note: You'll be required, as part of the curriculum, to study life drawing and painting. This regularly includes drawing the nude figure and the study of human anatomy.)

Develop advanced skills and knowledge with specialty arts electives
You’ll choose specialty electives to build on your existing toolset, learning advanced techniques, new disciplines and intermediate theory. With a broader base of experience and specialized knowledge, you’ll increase your marketable skills. Electives you can choose from include courses in 2D design and graphic communication, 3D design, sculpture and fabrication, drawing and painting.

Learn how to go into business as a professional artist, designer or entrepreneur
Our exclusive third-year Professional Practice course will teach you how to turn your artistic practice into a viable career or start your own business. You’ll meet guest professionals and learn how to apply for artist residencies, grants, exhibitions, design competitions and more. You’ll also build a portfolio of work and learn how to market yourself and promote your art on social media.

Benefit from Sheridan’s world-renowned art reputation and culture
Sheridan is one of the best arts schools in Canada, and we’re known globally for our illustration and animation programs. You’ll be immersed in our one-of-a-kind creative community and produce your work in world-class facilities. Our Trafalgar campus is located between two major art hubs — Toronto and Hamilton — so you’ll have access to plenty of culture without the cost of living in the big city.

Further your studies or begin your career
Many students who complete the Visual and Creative Arts advanced diploma program go on to further study in a degree program of their preference.

Some students gain entry-level employment in jobs that require visual art and design skills, as fine artists, freelance designers, and in community arts groups.
