Millions of Americans suffer from some form of speech, language, or hearing disorder and require specialized therapy or rehabilitation services. This creates a high demand for trained professionals to assist adults and children in overcoming their communication difficulties.
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the LIU Post is dedicated to the advancement of the diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and hearing problems, and meets the requirements for New York State Teacher of Children with Speech and Language Disabilities certification and licensure as a speech-language pathologist.
This course introduces the student to basic methods and materials of intervention for individuals with communication disorders. Materials used in speech-language therapy ae presented using a hands-on-approach. The decision making process involved in the development of appropriate long term goals and objectives will be explored as will the steps involved in lesson planning.
