The Bachelor of Music Education (Instrumental, Voice, or Piano) degree is designed for undergraduate students who intend to prepare for careers in instrumental, vocal, and general music as teachers for grades N-12 (PK-12). An audition is required to begin applied study. The degree focuses on a study of skills for music performance, the technical mechanics of music, music in historical perspective, music education methods and techniques, and educational foundations. Students learn collaborative interaction, study music of a variety of cultures, develop the ability to communicate effectively as music educators, and achieve a high standard of performance and technical skill.
This degree prepares you for a career as a soloist or as a member of an ensemble. In addition to performing, you may teach private voice lessons at a high school or university. You may also want to earn a master's degree to perfect your technique as a performer.
