Summary

Studying the past while preparing for the future is what you can expect when majoring in history at Nebraska. You will gain a global perspective as well as the knowledge, skills and experience to understand our history while developing a critical understanding of how the past continues to shape the present and future. Learn from faculty who specialize in the United States, Latin America, South America, the Middle East, Europe, Russia, China and Africa—from ancient civilizations to modern history.

Core classes in the major teach you the fundamentals of historical research and analysis and cover major themes and events in U.S., European and World History with special courses in Latin American, Asian and African history. In addition, you can elect to enroll in courses such as:

Slavery and Emancipation

The Holocaust

History of Espionage and many more!

As a history major, you will receive training in those skills—careful research, critical analysis and cogent writing—that make you an attractive candidate for a wide range of career opportunities.
