It comes from hands-on training in our Husky Energy Power Engineering lab. It's where you’ll learn and practice job ready skills. Learning continues in an industry practicum.
Before your December practicum, you’ll take a first step towards certification. You're prepared to write Part A of the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) 4th Class exam. You can challenge Part B at the end of the program.
Continue your power engineering path at Lakeland:
• 3rd class training. Choose between the 2nd year of our heavy oil power engineering (HOPE) program, or taking 3rd class online
• 2nd class online
Graduates from the HOOT program typically find work as:
• Field operators in the oil industry
• Fourth Class Power Engineer (after Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) certification) in heating plants, industrial power plants or pulp mills
