Summary

As a major in global studies at Nebraska, you will prepare for a changing and complex world, increase your knowledge of international issues and develop your skills in critical thinking, communications and logical analysis. Our interdisciplinary program is designed to help you understand the growing connectedness and diversity of interactions at the global level.

Core courses include International Relations and Contemporary Issues in Global Studies, with elective options in Geography of World Regions, Conflict and Conflict Resolution and World History Since 1500 CE. You will have the option of choosing from five Regional Specializations —Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East— as well as five Thematic Specializations — Identity, Culture, and Society, Global Resources and Environment, Global Security and Foreign Policy, Global Development and Service, and Human Rights.

Your global studies major will lay the groundwork for a career in any number of fields. Equipped with valuable skills, you may wish to pursue positions in local, state or national government; diplomacy and international security; education; and non-profit organizations in your hometown or around the world.
