A very quantitative track in Geology is called Geophysics, and this degree combines the study of geology with math and physics. The Geophysics major focuses on the structure of the Earth using seismic waves, and these students are highly sought after by petroleum companies. Students choose one of three concentrations: Environmental Geophysics, Earthquake Geophysics and Petroleum Exploration Geophysics.
The Baylor Geophysics program utilizes field and lab techniques to ensure thorough training. Students have access to advanced equipment like that used in professional fields of geophysicists. Graduates often continue their studies in graduate school. Many graduates teach or work for various government agencies while others find positions in the oil and gas industry.
