Summary

Be work-force ready with our environmental conservation and reclamation major.

Through our program you’ll gain skills and experience to ensure industry and the environment can coexist. This means either reclaiming disturbed lands or minimizing industry’s effects on natural habitats

You’ll learn how to
• classify, manage and conserve soils
• recognize and understand a variety of ecosystems
• do detailed site assessments
• apply reclamation regulations, guidelines and techniques to disturbed lands

You’ll visit and study forested, mined and cultivated lands as well as native and reclaimed areas.
On field trips , you’ll see current industry practices and technologies. In hands-on field labs you’ll develop and practice more than 20 applied skills industry wants.
When you graduate, you’re prepared to lead practical and specialized revegetation and reclamation projects on disturbed lands.

Career Outcomes

As an environmental professional you'll have a lot of career choices. You will often work in a team as a field technologist involved in activities ranging through:
• soil and plant sampling
• supervising or actively reclaiming and re-vegetating sites
• conducting site inspections and site assessments
• sampling of drilling fluid from rigs
• writing reports

You'll find jobs with environmental agencies and consultants in the oil and gas sector, mining, agriculture, and forestry sectors, as well as government. Flexibility in this career allows you to work for yourself or for small and large companies, government and agencies.

Other opportunities
Graduates of this program qualify for membership in the Alberta Institute of Agrologists and are eligible to article as a Registered Technologists in Agrology [RT(Ag)].

ECO Canada Certification
This program provides preparation for you to become an Environmental Professional (EP) with ECO Canada. As a diploma graduate you are eligible to apply to be an Environmental Professional in Training (Ept) and can upgrade to an EP after you have completed 5 years of relevant experience.

Minimum 50 Marks in English (12th). Minimum 50 Marks Biology and Chemistry (12th). Minimum 50 Marks in Math (12th). Note: If Applicant does not have math subject in Grade 12 then College will conduct online math exam.
