Course Info

Summary

The Classical Languages major trains you to read the great authors of classical antiquity (e.g., Homer, Plato, Vergil, Sappho, Saint Augustine) in the original language and prepares you for graduate study in classics and for teaching in some private schools.

Career Outcomes

The Classical Languages major in particular prepares students to do graduate work in classics, comparative literature, or archaeology (archaeologists must have an advanced knowledge of both Greek and Latin). Students who wish to teach Latin in secondary schools can also combine this major with a degree in the School of Education.
