The second-most widely spoken language in the world, Spanish is a key that opens as many doors in the United States as it does in any of the 21 countries in which it’s the official language. Few other foreign languages enable its bilingual speakers to so immediately connect, interact and discover opportunities (both professional and personal) in the world around them.
The major in Foreign Languages has four concentrations—French and Francophone Studies, German, Japanese, and Spanish—and leads to either the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Minors are offered in French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. Courses in Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Italian, Kurdish, Latin, Portuguese, and Russian are available.
Besides opening up a host of career opportunities in traditional foreign language fields (teaching, interpreting, etc.), fluency in Spanish is the ultimate “add-on” skill, often catapulting a job seeker ahead of all other competition in industries as diverse as business, law, and government.
