The ultrasound. The sonogram. The echocardiogram. All are the result of special imaging equipment that directs sound waves into a patient's body to assess and diagnose various medical conditions. Such imaging equipment is an invaluable tool in quality healthcare, and the diagnostic medical sonographer is the person trained to use that tool. MTSU's Pre-Diagnostic Medical Sonography program helps prepare students for this challenging and rewarding profession.

A three-year program at MTSU, coupled with 18 months in a diagnostic medical sonography program approved by the national accrediting agency and by MTSU (and completion of all graduation requirements of the university) will yield a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Health Sciences from MTSU's Department of Chemistry.

The diagnostic medical sonographer will be in demand as long as imaging equipment is an integral part of the health care experience.
