Summary

Combine engineering theory with practical career skills in this hands-on three-year degree and start your career as an in-demand engineering technologist – an area critical to the economy in New Zealand and overseas. Specialisations available in civil or mechanical engineering.
You will develop the capability to analyse and implement solutions applying their learning in real-life, practical situations, including taking part in a year-long industry project where they gain valuable real-world experience. You can choose to major in Civil or Mechanical engineering.

BEngTech graduates meet an industry need for people who can actively apply engineering knowledge, and integrate that knowledge into high level practical situations. Students achieving this qualification may also move into a higher level of study.

This programme is internationally benchmarked and recognised under the well-respected International Sydney Accord, which opens up opportunities to working both in New Zealand and internationally.

You will learn how to:
develop core engineering skills in computing, mathematics, management and engineering sciences, plus some discipline topics in your first year of study. This forms the foundation upon which will build your degree. Critical thinking, problem solving, and innovation will be a key part of your success.
continue to deepen your understanding in your chosen major and engage in projects to apply your knowledge in your second and third years. A capstone project is run with close ties to industry, with many projects being sponsored by key industry parties. This offers the chance to test your skills against industry standards in a real-world scenario, while building your professional portfolio and developing important industry contacts. Part time up to 10 years.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology are internationally employable. They will be employed for their ability to assess, select and apply generic and specific engineering technology in their practice area, and for their ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Graduates may also find work in research and development, technical support and application, education and communication, sales, quality and general management, or roles in local authorities and government.
