Insurance is one of those things we purchase and hope we never have to use. Most of us seldom pull the policy out of the file, but we're glad it's there … or somewhere. To the average consumer, purchasing insurance is gaining peace of mind and financial security against the possibility of a catastrophic event. A student who studies insurance at MTSU will interact with industry professionals, have the opportunity to join an award-winning honorary insurance fraternity, and earn scholarships and internships.

Students earn a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Risk Management & Insurance. Students may select to emphasize property and casualty, life and health, estate planning, financial planning, employee benefits or risk management. Other concentrations available in the Department of Economics and Finance under the Finance major are Business Finance, Financial Institution Management, and Real Estate.

Students in the Risk Management and Insurance program are strongly encouraged to work toward achieving professional designations. Four very prestigious insurance and risk management designations are the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
